Deputy Roger D. Rice Jr.

Deputy Roger Dale Rice, Jr., 29, of the Hickory Tavern Community, and husband of Stacy Bagwell Rice, passed away Thursday, July 14, 2011, while protecting our community in the line of duty.

Born in Greenville, he was a son of Roger Dale Rice, Sr. and Debra Haag Rice of Hickory Tavern. Roger was a faithful and courageous deputy with the Laurens County Sherriff's Office. In addition to his work, he loved spending time with his family. He was a loving father and a devoted husband.

Surviving in addition to his wife and parents are two children, Kristin Rice and Austin Rice, both of the home; two half-sisters, Lisa Rice of Simpsonville, and Tracy Rice of Lancaster; and maternal grandparents, Dorothy R. Haag of Ward, and William F. Haag, Sr. of Minnesota.
